Farmer's Market Day

On Sundays, Skip and I visit the Farmer's Market. My favourite tamale people were there so I snagged a dozen pork tamales for lunches this week. We were lucky enough to get their last ones.

Before this, we visited the Birding Center again. Skip wanted to try some settings on his new camera. It was overcast at the beginning so there wasn't a lot of colour in the photos but I did get some good ones.

Butterflies love the ageratum
This water feature is at the entrance of the Birding Center. The muskovy duck on the right seems to be a permanent resident. We saw him there last November.
Big Padre (left) and Lady Laguna (on shore on right) are the biggest attractions. Today the pond where the teenage gators are was being pressure washed. The worker was in there WITH the little gators. I sure hope he was well-paid.
The drab, juvenile roseate spoonbill was feeding beside the first boardwalk.

Three snoozing roseate spoonbills
Marbled godwit
Snoozing black-necked stilts balance on one leg
I love their bubble-gum pink legs.
This birder tested his camera on several subjects.

Moorhen
Great blue heron, teenage gator, black-bellied whistling ducks being photobombed by a clapper rail
A crested caracara flew overhead.

Snoozing pied-billed grebe
Blue-winged teal
Back at the parking lot, a pyrrhuloxia flew in.
It flew down to forage in the grass.
Texas olive trees are just beginning to come into bloom

Queen butterfly
Interesting license plate in the parking lot.
We hadn't seen the green heron until we were leaving. It was peeking out from the water feature at the entrance.
Not sure what kind of flycatcher/peewee this is but I got a shot of it after it grabbed its lunch.
