Part Four - Northern Lights

Finally, a few nights into our cruise, the clouds cleared enough for us to witness Northern Lights. Several of us had the Aurora app downloaded onto our phones so we knew they were out there. It was just a matter of having a sky clear enough to see them.

Out on the deck, the sun had barely gone down and I could see movement of light in the sky. We had been told how to set our cameras and iPhones to capture the spectacle.

Sure enough, looking through my iPhone, I was able to get some shots. All I could say was, 'Oh wow!'.

Other folks with fancier cameras got these photos. Eva, our tour director created a WhatsApp group for us to share photos. Oh wow, indeed.

Some of these were from another night's viewing. The second night the Northern Lights were visible, Poppy and I had already gone to be so we took a pass but did see them the third night they were visible.

Hurtigruten guarantees seeing the Aurora Borealis or they'll give you a free cruise. I'm sure they heave a sigh of relief when the skies are clear enough to see them.

Eva used photos we shared and some of her own to create a video for us to watch our last day of the cruise. This trip was such a wonderful experience and sharing it with dear friends made it even more special. I've done a lot of travelling over the years but this truly was one of my top 'trips of a lifetime'.
