Some Finishing

Yesterday Jen1 came over to do some finishing of a couple of pieces she had stitched. She wanted to consult on fabric selection for the backing of the pincushion scissor cases.

The finishing was pretty straightforward. The trick is to get everything lined up. For the first one we made cording out of #12 perle cotton. This is to attach the scissors to the pocket.

The scissors should have a guard so as to not damage the fabric of the stitching. One could also tuck a pen in the pocket or use the whole thing as a pincushion.
On the next one, she selected homespun fabric to be used for the back of the pocket and the back of the whole piece. It took some figuring out in order to have it centred properly but the vertical lines made it really easy to follow when sewing it up.
This time she used some satin ribbon for the scissor fob. She needed them for a smalls exchange at the end of the month so is very happy to have them done.
The finishing wasn't very hard - just fiddly. It took us 4 hours to do the both of them. Measuring twice and cutting once did pay off, it just took a lot longer than anticipated.

These little scissor pockets are so easy to make. Here are a couple I've done in the past.

and this one.

Such a clever design. I love making useful items and I'm always happy to help others do the same.
