Beautiful Embroidery

Yesterday, Skip and I travelled 100km up the valley to go birding with our weekly birding group at the Edinburg Scenic Wetlands and World Birding Center. We saw several interesting species including a curve-billed thrasher, long-billed thrasher, lesser goldfinch, white-eyed vireo, male and female cardinals, black crowned night herons, cattle and great egrets, cormorants, snowy egrets, green and belted kingfishers, kiskadees, mockingbirds, chachalacas, and purple martins. The light was so bad, anything I was shooting from far away didn't turn out well but this snowy egret landed right in front of us and posed for quite a while.

They are easy to identify by the dark bill and the bright yellow feet.

Afterwards a few of us went to Nana's for lunch. It is on Road 1015 on the way to Estero Llano Grande State Park. After a delicious Mexican lunch we lined up to pay. On the way out were two benches covered in satin stitch embroidery of birds and plants.

It was covered in clear vinyl so it will last for a long time.

The wall of the outdoor patio where we ate was also painted with these birds. It makes for quite a festive ambiance.

I can't even imagine how many hours went into creating this and the other bench covers.

It reminds me of the mother/daughter dresses my mom and I had made for us when we lived in Mexico lo those 50-odd years ago.

Some industrious embroiderer stitched a seahorse and coral on both of our dresses on the bodice and the skirt. I loved our mother/daughter dresses - pretty stylish for 1966. I'm so glad Dad got a shot of us in them.
